-killed in an early skirmish where his side used muskets and cannons
-his side fails to reload in time and he gets killed

1811-1838: Te Taoi

-son of Pocaea
-in OTL killed in a minor skirmish
-retrieves more and more arms and gets the chemical formula for gunpowder
-Maori gunpowder much inferior to imported but still used
-this helps fortify advantage
-Honghi Hica remains in a squarely secondary position
-travels to London and then he gets killed in French assault which capsizes his ship
-but still Te Taoi continues to get more guns to build up advantage and he does
-and uses cannons to fortify his position around and beyond Taetocerau
-and builds trade position with New Erin especially after it becomes independent
-eventually over the 1830s his position slowly weakens as other Maori able to get as many guns
-and accepts Charles de Thierry making a petty kingdom in Hokianga in return for a fuckton of guns
-in 1838 finally gets influenced enough by Western notions to crown himself King
-Cúnici comes from German Koenig

1838-1842: Te Taoi

-establishment of kingdom is not the establishment of a new state
-but it is now representative of its new grasp towards greatness
-launches several wars with Taenui and increasingly faced with a stalemate over the Tamaci isthmus

1842-1866: Hóne Hece

-cousin of Te Taoi
-skilled leader who attains his status as a result
